San Gimignano liegt auf einem H\u00fcgel im Val d’Elsa, auf halbem Weg zwischen Florenz und Siena. Sein Name leitet sich von San Geminiano ab, Bischof von Modena, der der \u00dcberlieferung nach die Stadt vor den Invasionen der Barbaren rettete. San Gimignano war im Mittelalter dank seiner Lage an der Via Francigena ein wichtiges Handels- und Kulturzentrum.<\/p>\n
